On Wednesday, September 14, 2016 we hosted a celebration for a good friend and tireless advocate who has given much to the blindness community. Charlene Guggisberg was hired by Joyce Scanlan, BLIND, Inc.’s first Executive Director, in 1988 as the Community Living Instructor, (Residential Coordinator). She worked over 13 non-consecutive years with Blind, Inc. and has held many positions along her journey. Charlene was Senior Class Instructor and Jobs Instructor. She helped develop BLIND, Incorporated’s Veterans Program and was Veteran Coordinator. She was the Youth Coordinator for 5 years, and in her last two years with BLIND, Inc. Charlene worked as Admissions Coordinator and eventually, Assistant Director of Student Life.

Her last day at BLIND, Inc. will be Friday, September 16. We the staff and students of Blind, Inc. will miss her cheerful personality and the wealth of knowledge that she imparted to all.

Charlene has taken a position with State Services for the Blind as Training Coordinator in the Seniors Unit. We are sure that she will continue to shine as an example of a true advocate for blind persons everywhere. We look forward to seeing Charlene often at BLIND, Inc, as we collaborate to provide quality programs to blind senior citizens.
