Hello everyone,

Early on Monday December 4, The staff and students at BLIND Incorporated loaded up three vans and headed out to Wolcyn Tree Farms and Nursery where we enjoyed traditional Apple cider and cookies before going on a sleigh ride to bring back our perfect tree. Once the tree was selected, it was then cut down. Several students had not been tree cutting before and were given the opportunity to wield the saw and cut the tree. It was a fun time as we enjoyed each other’s company. Though the weather was a bit gloomy, our hearts were light and the atmosphere cheerful.

After the tree was put on the van, we went to have a nice meal at Creamery Crossing.

The happy group arrived back at the mansion at about 4:45 and preceded to place the tree in its stand. We watered it and called it a day.

We continued our holiday decorating Tuesday with tons of ornaments and lights. While some of us worked on the tree, others placed decorations through out our building. By the end of the day, all was done. The entire building had a festive atmosphere.

Some of the building residents woke up Wednesday morning to a nasty surprise. Our Home Management Instructor Becky stated it best when she paraphrased the famous Philosopher George Berkeley, and uttered the words,

If a tree falls in the lunch room, and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?

Well apparently not as none of the overnight residents heard a single sound. We entered the lunch room to find the tree down with decorations and water all over the floor. We cleaned the room and mourned the loss of several ornaments, but nobody was seriously injured during the event. Was it an earthquake? Was it the Grinch coming in to ruin our holiday? Could it have been the wind? It’s a mystery that will remain unsolved.

We started over and redecorated the tree. Despite our little setback, we finished the tree decoration and we are ready for the festivities to come.

When our holiday tree fell, it broke a lot of sentimental favorites – ornaments donated by our students over the years. If you’d like to help replace them, please find an ornament that is meaningful to you, put your name and date of graduation on it, and send it to us at: Ornaments, BLIND, Inc., 100 E. 22nd St., Minneapolis, MN 55404.

We the staff and students of Blind, Incorporated, wish to extend to you and yours our best wishes for a safe and happy Holiday Season.
